A Word on Equality

Just recently Brazil has moved forward in officially recognising same sex marriage, along with just a handful of other countries or states throughout the world. As a resident of a country that does NOT allow this (Australia) while a still developing country such a Brazil does makes me wonder about why we are not doing the same. Supposedly this Australia is 'the land of the fair go', and we are seen as a country with developed social policies. Clearly we are still lagging behind in this area. Its just a piece of paper and two rings, really, i can't even see why this should even be such a big issue. While i am not gay myself, i have a few friends who are. Just as I can legally marry, my friend, being supposedly an 'equal', should be able to do the same.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this issue whether you agree with me or not.

  6. It's a good thing and most civilized countries are starting to allow it these days.

  7. If you ask me, it's all because of the religion...

  8. I actually agree there. I don't really see the issue myself. This, to me, feels more like a case of religion getting in the way. That's usually the case.

I remember an island not far from me, where a disaster struck on the same day as the first gay marriage. Apparently, this was God punishing them.

  11. "Just a piece of paper and two rings" ... argh don't think so. Some people see it differently and they think it's an attack on their culture/religion. Well I don't care about that issue they can do whatever they want.
